The northern-hemisphere’s summer is heating up and slowly dying out.
While it’s been doing that, I’ve been hard at work making great and hopefully insightful videos for the “Learning About Movies” channel.
All told, I’ve got videos planned through March of next year.
That’s right: if I croak right now, you’ll still see me for a few months!
And that’s not all. I’ve released a lot of videos this summer, including ones that have taken a lot of time and care.
Among those are two “great directors” videos. When I do those, I watch the entire filmography of a director in chronological order, read around about him/her, and then try to craft my own conclusions that would help viewers enter into or expand their understanding of the director’s work.
The two directors featured this summer: Turkey’s own Nuri Bilge Ceylan and America’s own Jim Jarmusch.
Never heard of them? Then great, you are going to be introduced to two truly great artists. Just check out the videos below. And as a bonus, I have a video on one of their major works each.
Before that, though, if you somehow missed my opinions on the Barbenheimer explosion, then you can find video reviews of Barbie and Oppenheimer below as well.
The first movie below, though, is the most special one of all. One that I think is one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen: Edward Yang’s “A Brighter Summer Day.”
About four times a year, I’m floored and mesmerized when I see a new movie to me. In truth, this is one of the major reasons I watch movies: to find those experiences.
“A Brighter Summer Day” gave me one of those, and this is my paean to it.
